Summer Reading
May 21, 2009
I am actually excited about summer reading this year. Okay, not really excited, but not absolutely dreading it like in 9th or 10th grade. The past 2 years, the questions have seemed to go one FOREVER!!! But this year, it looks like it won’t be nearly as gruesome.
I will start with whatever book arrives first from Amazon; that’s how I choose my beginning novel! lol I don’t really have any special strategies for reading. I just try to get all done as quickly as possible so I can still actually do stuff during the summer. I found out this afternoon that our new screened in porch is the best place ever for reading! It overlooks our creek with its rushing water noises and is just a comfortable and serene place to read. I like nothing more than to sit out in a big old rocking chair after supper on a cool evening and just waste away the hours pondering life. But reading is also a good thing to do out there, especially now that it’s screened in: no kitties, puppies, and mosquitoes the size of Coke cans to get in there to me!! Has anybody else seen these things this year????? They’re freaky looking….
Pterodactyl Skeeters! Yes, I have seen them at my house too. You need a giant fly swatter to annihilate them! I am envious of your screened porch; I just told my husband the other day I wanted one. I don’t think it will happen THIS summer, but maybe next year.
I’m glad you are not absolutely dreading the summer reading this year. I think the books are worthwhile and I think the assignments are a little more personalized than those of summers past. Instead of hundreds of literal questions, I want to know a little more about what you THINK. I want you to express yourself in the assignments. And I REALLY want you guys to get on these blogs and chat it up this summer about the required reading. I would LOVE it if some of you actually disagreed about something in the novels and DEBATED it online! Whoo-hoo! That would be FUN for me!
Good luck with getting everything from Amazon. I’m still waiting on a backorder of one of my textbooks for this summer.
I HAVE seen those ginormous skeeters!!! But i found out those are the males and they don’t bite. They just look scary. But I started reading Fahrenheit 451 and I really like it =]. Very politically involved. I’m not sure what your take on things will be but it makes me think a lot about life. If it really is what I think it is, or is it what everybody else WANTS me to think… ?
